Padang's Landslide 13/09



Beside the flash flood that hits one of the districts in the urban village of Batu Busuak, landslides also buried the West Sumatra city of Padang.

The landslides covered four houses, two people were found dead, while two are still in the search. The death toll was immidiately evacuated and taken to the funeral home to be buried the next day.

Novrizal, the head of Regional Disaster Management Agency of Padang proclaimed to evacuate the victims. Since the terraing was quite heavy and the road is narrow to reach the location, the evacuation was halted for quite a time.

Flash Flood Strikes Padang Again


High Intensity raifall that occurred at the Batang Kuranji river since noon causes flash floods that hits several city areas of Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at around 4:00 PM.

The head of Data, Information and Public Relations of the National Agency for Disaster Management, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, sent texts through Blackberry message on Thursday, clarifying the areas the will be hits by the floods. After that, Sutopo said that hundreds of houses in the three districts Pauh, Kuranji, Luki, and Lubeg flooded. And up until now, there have been no deaths or injuries due to the flash floods. And hundreds of residents fled to higher ground areas.


In addition, Sutopo mentioned that Padang’s regional disaster agency reported that there was a landslide occurred around the river of the vilage of Batu Busuak. And police team, military, and disaster teams are carrying out the evacuation shelter, food preparation, and distribution equipment, and monitoring the disaster sides.

Typhoon Cut Out Food Production in North Korea


Typhoon Bolaven has caused lots of damage around South Korea, Taiwan, and Japanese Island Okinawa. This disaster has killed about 20 people, caused the cut out of power supply, destroyed homes and businesses, delayed and cancellation of International flights at the main airport, it caused transport chaos, and more than hundreds of trees downed.

Moreover, this typhoon has caused damage to the western part of North Korea and damages the corps, which is the source of food for their country. The communist country can no longer feed its citizens and they rely on food aid.

Typhoon Bolaven Hits South Korea


While the United States waits for the Hurricane Isaac, South Korea is dealing with another storm called the Typhoon Bolaven.


The Associated Press stated that the typhoon hits South Korea with strong winds and heavy rain have killed nine and smashed two Chinese fishing ships into rocks that forced the coast guards to go down to the location and rescues all the survivors.



Hundreds of trees were downed, more than 15,000 schools cancelled classes, about 1.7 million South Korean homes’ and businnesses’ power supply were cut out, and the floods and storm destroyed houses and more than 80 families were left homeless.
